One-to-one therapy represents a starting point for many children who are beginning ABA therapy for the first time. This is an important form of autism one-to-one support, providing the intense and focused approach needed to learn and master motor and social skills, as well as self-help, language and other incredibly valuable skills they will need in their daily life.

How Does One-to-One Therapy Work?

This highly effective form of therapy begins by assigning a behavioral specialist to work with your child. Each session provides sufficient time to master vital skills and behavior, taught via either the naturalistic or discrete trial method identified as being most suited to your child’s needs. Any number of individual therapies may also be employed for the treatment of behavioral and mental health conditions, including group therapy, individual counseling and cognitive behavioral therapy.

Naturalistic vs. Discrete Trial Therapy

In naturalistic therapy, children learn through naturally occurring teachable moments that happen during sessions. Discrete trial therapy focuses on teaching one skill per session via repetition and positive reinforcement.

Focus

Because every child is different, the focus of one-to-one therapy will differ for each child. For example, one child may benefit most from therapy that focuses on speaking sounds or responding to their name before learning math, writing or reading. Another child may not require assistance with these, but they may need time to learn age-appropriate play, visual performance and communication, and peer interaction skills.

Is One-to-One Therapy Right for My Child?

Parents who are new to this type of therapy wonder if their child will respond favorably to it. Because of the fact that therapy is customized for the individual child, is intensive, and allows children to master necessary life and social skills, one-to-one therapy offers benefits for every child. In starting with one-to-one therapy, your child will be able to lay an important foundation for family therapy and, ultimately, the long term. We always welcome questions about one-to-one therapy, and invite you to reach out to us at any time with your requests for further information about us.

What Can I Expect from One-to-One Therapy with A Happy Family?

Measurable improvement forms the basis of one-to-one therapy. Via the constant collection of data, our therapists are able to create achievable goals for your child, map your child’s progress, and identify and address anything which may be making it difficult for your child to learn. As more data is collected, it is used to fine-tune each therapy session for the best possible outcomes.

No matter your child’s needs, skill level or mental health issue, you can always expect that they will receive one-to-one therapy delivered by a highly skilled and trained therapist. Each of our therapists is an important member of the A Happy Family team. They not only possess over 16 years of combined autism treatment experience, but each therapist has been chosen specifically for their excellent qualifications.

Our therapists also receive continuous training and certification from the American Academy of Pediatrics as long as they remain with us. This keeps their qualifications current, allowing them to offer only the highest quality one-to-one therapy to your child.

But your child isn’t the only one who learns; parent training is another thing you can expect from A Happy Family. These sessions will teach you how to be involved in your child’s therapy experience.

You will learn how to reinforce positive behavior, witness your own personal growth, and identify any behavior which may interfere with therapy progress, as well as how to reinforce the skills your child is learning between their sessions. You’ll also receive needed support from our marriage and family therapist.

A Happy Family keeps a small client list, which ensures that your child always receives the attention they need, when they need it, including on weekends.
