Early intervention with applied behavioral analysis (ABA) therapy is a very effective evidence-based treatment option for children with ASD. But in order to ensure your child receives the best care at every stage of treatment, it’s necessary to develop a treatment plan.

At A Happy Family, we know that a multi-stage approach is the best way to ensure that children with autism spectrum disorder receive the highest-quality treatment. All of these components are necessary to generate the information we need to better understand your child.

Consultation With You

You will speak with one of our skilled BCBAs (board-certified behavioral analysts) over the phone. During this conversation, you’ll communicate your highest-priority concerns, and we will provide you with the information you need to make an informed decision about whether ABA therapy is the right choice for your child.

Assessment of Your Child

If it’s decided that ABA therapy is the right fit, the next step is to conduct an in-home assessment, which allows observation to take place in your child’s most comfortable environment. One of our highly skilled BCBAs will visit your home to conduct this comprehensive evaluation.

Using observation and various assessment techniques, the BCBA will determine your child’s ability to move, see and hear, as well as conduct an assessment of their thinking and learning patterns. The BCBA will also assess your child’s current level of understanding others’ verbal communication, as well as their own speech, language and communication skills.

The social interactions component of the assessment will help our BCBA determine your child’s current ability to relate to others, both in emotional and social situations. Your child will also be evaluated in terms of their motor skills and ability to feed, dress, help and care for themselves.

The assessment of these and other important developmental skills will allow our BCBA to collect the data necessary and complete the next step, which is report generation.

Report Generation

Along with their extensive experience and skills, our BCBAs use the information they collect from the in-home assessment of young people with autism to generate a detailed report. In the report, you can see each of the evaluations our BCBA conducted and their results.

In addition to assessment results, our BCBA will provide you with a proposal for what they feel are the most effective early intensive behavioral intervention and treatment approaches for autism, which may include the Early Start Denver Model, physical therapy, mental health and occupational therapy.

Review of the Report

We review every detail of the report with the parents of young people with ASD. This helps them learn why and how each assessment was completed, and reveals how treatment from A Happy Family will benefit their child. We encourage parents to ask as many questions as possible, as the final report will be used as a guide by our BCBA throughout the treatment process. If you’re ready to begin, we invite you to contact us to schedule a consultation and evaluation today.
